Why create this site?

In 2017, Hollywood cast a string of white actors in Asian roles. I was especially frustrated by Hollywood's decision to cast Scarlett Johanssen as Major Makoto Kusanagi, an iconic and beloved childhood icon for many.

Why does Hollywood White-washing even matter?

The demographic makeup of Hollywood starring roles does not reflect the demographics of America. Hollywood white washing contributes to the othering and alienation of marginalized people. It is important that the stories of all people be told in order to foster empathy and understanding.
